the experience

What are the things you want to remember about your child when they are all grown up?  Will it be the way your little girl tilts her head back when she laughs or the tiny mole by your baby boy’s belly button?  Will it be those chubby rubber band wrists or those three little hairs that are always sticking straight up?  There are tons of things that you see all the time now, but that will probably soon be forgotten.  As a natural light, on location photographer these are “the little things” that I want to capture so that you can remember them for the rest of your life, so that when your little one is all grown up, you can think back on these things and laugh (or cry . . . if you are anything like me).  There are a few things I recommend to do so that we can capture these memories and get the best photos possible.

the session :: the number one rule for a erika snow photography session?  It must be fun.  once you have booked a session I will discuss the details with you. the location is completely up to you, but I have lots of recommendations to get the kind of pictures you are hoping for.  Downtown urban? Rustic barn? Your living room?  All great choices, and some settings will feel more “you” than others.  Sessions typically last a couple hours and are never rushed.  i like to develop a relationship with you and your family.  that way your child can relax and be their true self.

newborn session :: it has been my experience that there is not a bad time to photograph a child.  however, if you would like sleepy, curled up newborn pictures, the earlier the better.  i recommend within the first 10 days of life.  the younger your baby is, the easier it is to sleep though all the repositioning.  it is a good idea to schedule your session while you are still pregnant.  newborn sessions usually last at least two hours, sometimes more.  newborns are on their own schedule and there needs to be plenty of time for feeding, diaper change, etc.

children’s session :: The best age to photograph babies is 6-8 months old. This is the age where they are sitting on their own but not yet crawling and able to get away from me. Babies this age are very happy and content and are usually still sporting a cute little gummer smile. The next age that is very popular is one year olds. They are much more challenging to photograph, but I get the best personality shots from this age. It’s great if you can bring a birthday cake for them to dig into at the end when their attention span has left the building.

what to wear :: this may be the most asked and thought about decision prior to your session.  Clothing choices should reflect your children’s personality as well as compliment the location selected for the shoot.  i recommend wearing layers as much as possible to add interest and texture.  when deciding what to wear never underestimate the power of accessories.  hats, scarves, fun necklaces, funky boots, tights, etc. really can make a photograph more interesting.  just be careful not to overdo it in a family session.  limit yourself to a few colors per family and 1-2 patterns.  try to keep each person a little unique but staying within your color scheme.  i am happy to help you select from a few of your favorites on the day of the session.

the waiting :: Approximately two weeks after your session you’ll receive your private online gallery.  I will provide a sneak peek in the week following your session.  please feel free to refer family and friends there to view your photographs.  Print orders are placed through me online or in person.

payment :: session fees are collected up front.  All other costs are due upon receiving your product.

travel :: i am located in the Scottsdale, AZ area, but am available for travel in Arizona, Nevada and Utah.  if you have an additional travel request please contact me.
